Frequently Asked Questions

When planning for oral surgery, it’s important to factor in recovery time so you can schedule your procedure accordingly.

Exactly how long recovery takes will depend on you and your unique needs. Some surgeries allow you return to work the same day. Others require more recovery time, and some patients heal faster than others.

More involved procedures require two to three days of recovery time. In this case, your surgery can be performed on a Friday so you will be able to go back to work on the following Monday.

To minimize recovery times, please follow all post-procedure guidelines provided by our office. If you have been prescribed antibiotics, take them as directed until they’re finished.

If you are uncomfortable, we recommend taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin. In some cases, stronger pain medication is needed, and Dr. Um will determine if it’s warranted and safe for you.

Our team at Lake Forest Oral Surgery wants you to have a successful procedure with the shortest recovery time and the best possible outcome. We will do whatever is necessary to keep you comfortable while you’re here and provide you with the support you need during your recovery.

Please call us if you have questions about recovery time for your specific surgery.

Black tea has a chemical that can help you clot faster. Placing a moist black tea bag on a surgical site instead of gauze can help the patient clot faster. This is can help patients who are on blood thinners like aspirin, plavix, pradaxa, xeralto etc. Consistent firm pressure is very important to stop the bleeding of extraction sites. Here are some links to black tea.

1. English Breakfast

2. Lipton

3. Earl Grey

Clear Liquid Diet is recommended for 2 days following impacted lower wisdom teeth extractions. Clear liquid is a liquid you can see through. Color is not a problem. For example apple juice is clear vs orange juice is opaque.

Some examples of clear liquid includes:

2. Pineapple Juice | Great for Inflammation

3. Gatorade

4. Jell-O

5. Broth

6. Sherbet Ale

8. Ginger Ale | Great for nausea
